Elaine Coppen

Elaine studied at Norwich School of Art and Design gaining a B.A. (Hons) Fine Art, having previously learnt printmaking skills such as linocuts (relief prints), etching and silk screen, at Colchester Institute.
I am very interested in drawing the figure and this has inspired much of my work. I now like to bring texture into my prints and this is often achieved through collograph plates. I enjoy printmaking because there is always an element of surprise in the results. Different effects can be achieved by changing the process slightly, the pressure of the press, a different colour on top of another or combining more than one printing plate, whether it be etching, lino or collograph.
Elaine is a member of Gainsborough's House Printworkshop in Sudbury. Her work has been shown at Gainsborough's House and in many exhibitions including The Minories, Colchester; Christchurch Mansion Ipswich, and Snape Maltings. She has also had a one woman exhibition at Colchester Mercury Theatre.
