Malcolm has been painting for over 40 years and for the last eight years he has been a full time artist. He is Vice President of Manchester Academy of Fine Art, a member of the Pastel Society and The Federation Of British Artists. In 2019 Malcolm was elected as Member of the Royal Society of British Artists.

Although principally a painter of landscapes and still life, he uses his many sketchbook studies and drawings as a starting point from which a fully abstract image often develops; he doesn’t have a fixed image in mind when he starts, preferring to let the imagery evolve through the process of
painting. His work is distinctive and captures the essential characteristics of a subject, it evolves through the painting process until he feels the tensions of the composition are right. Energy and a sense of freedom is what he strives for, allowing the spontaneity of the marks to be interesting in their own right.

He has shown his work in many national exhibitions including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Royal Society of British Artists, The Pastel Society, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, The Royal Institute Of Painters in Watercolour, The Royal Society of Marine Artists and
The Royal Glasgow Institute Of Fine Art.

Malcolm has exhibited in galleries throughout the UK and as far afield as New York and Seattle. In recent years these include The McLellan Gallery Glasgow; Ing Discerning Eye Exhibition at The Mall Gallery, London; The Portico Library Gallery, Manchester; Gallery Oldham; Artmill Gallery,
Plymouth; Oriel Wrexham; Royal Cambrian Academy, Conwy; Cricket Fine Art, Chelsea; The Aldeburgh Gallery and several major London art fairs.

He has also been a prizewinner at The Pastel Society exhibition.

His work is held in collections in England, Wales, Scotland, USA, Australia, New Zealand, The Cayman Islands, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain.
