Robert Newton - An Intimate Landscape - Solo Exhibition
'These paintings are of a working landscape and its surroundings, a landscape re-shaped to suit our own existence either for agriculture or mining or other development. Divided by narrow stretches of hedgerow, woodland and path, these tiny oases are a sanctuary for many insects, plants and animals. Here I highlight their habitat and its fragility; tomorrow it may be gone forever.' This work is a journal of an immediate landscape, one that has become deeply rooted within my subconscious whilst walking my dog each day. A long-term project and one I began last year, it is a new direction and one, I hope, will add more emphasis to my painting.
