Benedict was born in 1967. His paintings exist in the no-man’s land between the figurative and the surreal. The vibrant colours and geometric shadowing and structural form creates a heightened sense of reality in each work- giving a feeling of both familiarity and the other. His current series focuses on the depiction of beach lifeguard stations, placed against a flat blue sky.

” These structures have totemic quality which is partly a result of their location and their isolation. They just sit facing the sea in all weathers, day and night and this imbues them with an odd other-worldliness. They are also drenched in beautiful coastal light and feature weather beaten wood painted an array of different colours all of which make them a treat to paint.”

Benedict has taken part in several group shows over the last decade including the RWA Open Exhibition and frequently takes part in the Affordable Art Fair. He was awarded the Bath Society of Artists Prize in 2018. He lives and works in Somerset.
