Gabriel Kerfoot was born in 1999 and raised in Bristol, where he undertook an Arts Foundation course, before moving to London to study Fine Art at Central St Martins.
He is an exciting new talent and his vibrant works have their own language, as well as demonstrating an acute eye for space and light.
Working in mixed media on canvas and paper, these are original and challenging works, but they retain a fine feel for colour.

Artist's statement:

"As an artist and a human being, I am acutely aware of the shared consciousness that binds us all - a profound, innate yearning for genuine meaning and happiness. Within the Western human experience, I perceive a pervasive sense of disconnection from something greater than ourselves, a void within us shaped by the
influence of capitalist consumer culture, leading to a detachment from life’s grandeur and essence.

In response, I am attracted to unique social environments, particularly those within rave culture and the electronic music realm. For me, rave spaces intertwine with secular spiritual concepts related to the significance of inner emotional presence.

I embark on creative explorations of rave spaces as anthropological attempts to interface with a higher form of divinity. In my paintings, I conceptualise these microcosms as secular churches - places of unity that reveal the profound ability of humans to empathise and unite en masse, which our everyday society often discourages.

My paintings visualise these ethereal atmospheres and transient moments of encountering and experiencing the sublime. I aim to inspire audiences to find what brings them tranquillity in the present moment and encourage them to pause and reflect on the comfort and optimism such experiences can infuse into our realities.

At their essence, my works are pictorial tributes to spiritual concepts. They depict the moments I feel most connected to these ideas - during live electronic music experiences. While my artistic practice remains deeply personal, I aspire to have my contemplations resonate with others.

Within my paintings, you will encounter figures yearning within stained glass window chambers—solitary or moving towards one another—an autobiographical representation of my own pursuit of inner harmony. Yet, they also symbolise our collective quest for presence, contentment, and peace in our everyday lives."
