Sophie is a Dutch artist based in the United Kingdom. She studied art history (MA, Ph.D) in The Netherlands, specialising in English Baroque architecture. Antique textiles and references to old masters (17th century) are integrated into her works which explore portraits, figures and fabrics, especially lace.

Sophie's work has been shown in prestigious exhibitions such as the annual shows of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Pastel Society and the BP Portrait Award, as well as galleries in the UK and the US.

In 2013 Sophie won the BP Travel Award at the BP Portrait Award 2013 exhibition, which enabled her to conduct research into 17th century portraiture and the depiction of lace and fabrics within it. This inspired a series of paintings, a selection of which were exhibited within the BP Portrait Award 2014 Exhibition.

Some of the Lace Trail paintings will be on display in The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh from 28 November 2014 - 12 April 2015.
