Rachael Rebus is one of Britain's outstanding young painters. Born in Edinburgh, she studied at Leith College of Art before graduating at the highly thought of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.

"My practice as a painter is heavily influenced by how light can contain and substantiate space. The physical boundaries that articulate the details of indiscernible space are embodied in my paintings by the presence or absence of light. Each space that I paint clutches at a capacity to create a void whilst also having the potential to be full. This can reflect the impetus of pregnancy, birth, life, death and rebirth. My paintings are reminiscent of liminoid spaces occupying the thresholds of each change in the cyclical process. These thoughts are integral to my understanding during the process of painting, responding firstly to the medium itself. As I layer up the paint onto the canvas I scratch away and often repaint the image until it is moulded into the final composition. The space that is then constructed conveys the struggle of process and flux in which pressure and distress cause transformation to take place".

Rachael's was described by Lorenzo Belenguer of the Huffington Post as 'by far one of the most exciting artists now'
